EXO’s fans were shocked at the news that Kris wants to end his contract with SM Entertainment.
Rumours about the lawsuit were first reported by Chinese media outlet Sino and spread fast among fans until the news broke in Korea. The news comes in the middle of EXOs heavy promotional activities of “Overdose” and 8 days before their first solo concert in Seoul. Meanwhile “Overdose” is topping music charts and demonstrating record-breaking pre-sells.
It is reported that Kris is suing SM for “being treated as an object, all his schedules were decided for him without regard to his opinion or health, violating his basic human right to freedom”.
In regards to that it was earlier confirmed that Kris will not be joining his fellow EXO members in their promotions and activities in the future.
It seems fans are not the only ones at a loss about the current situation. Following the news fans have noticed that Kris is no longer followed by EXO members on various social media accounts and EXO members started leaving mysterious messages on Instagram making fans even more confused.
SM Entertainment has been the subject of prior lawsuits and allegations of unfair labour practices, and their exclusive contracts are often called “slave contracts”.
Previously members of the two Korean most successful boy bands – TVXQ and Super Junior – have filed lawsuits to end their exclusive contracts with SM. Former Super Junior member Hangeng and former TVXQ members Jaejoong, Yoochun, and Junsu (JYJ) suffered hardship following their lawsuits which included television blackouts and difficulty with promoting their new activities.
As a fan of 5-member TVXQ it was really sad to see them break apart. Maybe SM really needs to make some changes about their contracts so fans woudn’t see another band fall apart.
I miss them!
