The New Hallyu Kings Kim Soo Hyun, Lee Min Ho, Lee Jong Seok and Kim Woo Bin

New Hallyu Kings

The last year or two has proven to be game changing in the Korean entertainment industry. The media has recently crowned the new generation of Hallyu Wave kings among the actors in the face of Kim Soo Hyun, Lee Min Ho, Lee Jong Seok and Kim Woo Bin. Coincidently their big breakthrough and insane popularity all happened in the last year via a SBS drama.

The fresh actors took over the original Hallyu Kings led by Lee Byung Hun, Won Bin, Song Seung Hoon and Jang Dong Gun . These are well known and established actors, known even to new K-drama fans, though nowadays they mainly do movies. The hit classics that brought them to stardom were ‘Joint Security Area’, ‘Autumn in My Heart’ and ‘Friend’ respectfully.

How did the new young actors rose to that status? An interesting fact is that all of them first grabbed the viewers’ attention with a previous project before rocketing into stardom. Lee Jong Seok first stole the hearts with his bromance/friendship with Kim Woo Bin in ‘School 2013’ but drama ‘I Hear Your Voice’ made him a star, followed by buddy Kim Woo Bin’s rise to fame with the hit drama ‘Heirs’. ‘Heirs’ turned out to be the drama that also crowned Lee Min Ho, known for his role in ‘Boys Over Flowers’. And Kim So Hyun who become a household name in 2011 with his role in ‘Dream High’ but completely stole the audience love with mega hit drama ‘You From Another Star’ in 2013.

Other great projects you can enjoy watching with them are: Lee Jong Seok – movie ‘No breathing’, Lee Min Ho – dramas ‘Personal Taste’ and ‘City Hunter’, Kim So Hyun – drama ‘The Moon Embracing The Sun’ and Kim Woo Bin – (my favourite) dramas ‘White Christmas’ and ‘Gentleman’s Dignity’.
