The drama is getting a lot of attention for the possible casting, because of the success of ‘Reply 1997’ and ‘Reply 1994’. The first confirmed are Sung Dong Il and Lee Il Hwa, the beloved parents couple from the previous instalments, followed by news of Girl’s Day‘s Hyeri taking the female lead role.  Now, there is another wave of news about possible casting for the rest of the cast.

Reports announce that actors Park Bo Gum (Naeil’s Cantabile’) and Lee Yi Kyung (‘School 2013’) have auditioned for a part, along with the rumour of Kim Sung Kyun aka the beloved Samcheonpo from ‘Reply 1994’, returning in ‘Reply 1988’. Last month there was a buzz about the possible idol casting with D.O. from EXO and Irene from Red Velvet auditioning for supporting roles in the main cast ensemble. Reply Series are famous for casting idols and both instalments brought fame and recognition for idols Jung Eun Ji from Apink, Hoya from Infinite, Baro from B1A4 and Dohee from Tiny-G, and actors Seo In Guk, Go Ara, Jung Woo and Yoo Yeon Seok.

Unlike the past two Reply series, ‘Reply 1988’ will not be romance but family focused, with heartwarming stories of families and neighbours. The year 1988 was chosen as the year the Summer Olympics were held in Seoul and the presidency of Roh Tae Woo, who was later found guilty for corruption under office.

‘Reply 1988’ is scheduled to air in October 2015.
